Job Summary
The Principal Laboratory Technician will be responsible for implementing laboratory standards and procedures, supervising laboratory staff, managing samples, maintaining equipment, ensuring a safe working environment, supporting biobanking activities and field research, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Implementing laboratory standards and procedures.
- Supervising and guiding laboratory technicians, interns, and students.
- Collecting, receiving, processing, and storing samples to ensure integrity for future use.
- Maintaining laboratory equipment for the smooth running of procedures.
- Ensuring a clean and safe working environment to avoid contamination of final products.
- Designing and developing the necessary laboratory infrastructure needed for biobanking.
- Performing biobanking activities.
- Preparing and storing laboratory reagents.
- Maintaining records of tests and samples.
- Supporting field research activities.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and licensure.
- Performing analytical and diagnostic procedures in the laboratory to contribute to efficiency in service delivery.
- Ensuring that all laboratory waste is disinfected and disposed of appropriately to avoid environmental contamination.
Qualifications & Requirements
For appointment to this grade, an Officer MUST have:
- At least eight (8) years of relevant work experience.
- Diploma in any of the following fields: Medical Laboratory Sciences, Laboratory Sciences, Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
- Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) where applicable.
- Valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board where applicable.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Demonstrated work performance and results.
- Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
