Purpose of the Job:
To ensure accurate dispensing, patient counseling, and proper handling of pharmaceutical supplies within the hospital.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Dispense medications and other commodities accurately.
- Advise patients on proper drug use, including dosage, administration, and potential side effects.
- Compound and prepare prescriptions as required.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant pharmacy regulations and hospital policies.
- Manage the stock and inventory of medicines, including storage and organization.
- Conduct scheduled stock takes to maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Maintain accurate patient records related to medication dispensing in the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, regarding patient medication needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the Pharmacy & Poisons Board of Kenya.
- Current professional practice license from the Pharmacy & Poisons Board.
- A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in a busy healthcare setting (hospital or pharmacy).
- Previous use and exposure to a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) will be an added advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret prescriptions appropriately and offer the required guidance as necessary.
- Strong knowledge of drug dosages, interactions, contraindications, and side effects.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing and record-keeping.
- Good communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
