Overall Responsibility
The Pharmaceutical Technologist is responsible for the accurate dispensing of medications, stock management, and provision of pharmaceutical care under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret and dispense prescriptions to outpatients and inpatients.
- Provide appropriate counseling to patients on dosage, drug interactions, and side effects.
- Ensure the proper labeling and packaging of medications.
- Receive, store, and issue pharmaceutical supplies while maintaining proper inventory records.
- Monitor stock levels and expiry dates; assist in placing timely orders to avoid stockouts.
- Conduct monthly stock counts and prepare reports for management.
- Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, controlled drugs, and stock movement.
- Ensure all pharmaceutical practices adhere to the Pharmacy & Poisons Board regulations and facility protocols.
- Assist in preparing reports for audits and regulatory inspections.
- Maintain professional and courteous communication with patients, clinicians, and other departments.
- Participate in Continuing Medical Education and training related to pharmacy operations.
Requirements
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
- Registered and licensed by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
- Minimum of 1 year's experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting.
- Familiarity with pharmacy management systems and drug supply chains.
- High ethical standards and integrity.
