Job Purpose
To provide quality nursing services within the operating theatre, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients throughout their surgical journey.
Core Responsibilities:
- Ensures complete pre-operative assessment, including the surgical checklist, nursing documentation, and doctor's assessment.
- Receives the patient prior to surgery, gets a report from the accompanying nurse, and performs a pre-operative checklist.
- Scrubs for surgical procedures in the operating room.
- Ensures effective recovery of patients post any form of anaesthesia.
- Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
- Ensures safety checks are performed to ensure the correct patient and correct procedure are performed.
- Performs pain assessment and initiates analgesics as required.
- Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
- Coordinates the theater list with concerned ward nurses.
- Provides a safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.
- Assists in the mentorship of staff and students in the theater.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse from a recognized training institution.
- Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Higher Diploma in Peri-operative Theatre Nursing is an added advantage.
- Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in theater nursing.
