Job Summary
AAR Health Care (Kenya) Limited is seeking diligent Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Ambulance Operators to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of patients in emergency situations. Reporting to the EMTs team leader, the role involves the operation and maintenance of ambulances, as well as assisting paramedics in providing essential patient care during transit. This position requires a strong sense of responsibility, excellent driving skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely and skillfully operate ambulances in emergency and non-emergency situations, adhering to traffic laws and hospital protocols.
- Conduct thorough daily checks to ensure ambulances and all onboard medical equipment are well-maintained , clean, and in optimal working condition.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of vehicle usage, mileage, fuel consumption, equipment inventory, and any maintenance performed.
- Ensure all communication equipment within the ambulance, such as radios and mobile devices, is fully operational at all times and report any malfunctions promptly.
- Manage and maintain receipts related to all vehicle usage, including fuel purchases, toll fees, and any necessary ambulance maintenance or repairs.
- Assist paramedics effectively in the assessment, treatment, and care of patients at the scene of an emergency and during ambulance transportation.
- Provide basic first aid and patient comfort measures as directed by the paramedic or within the scope of EMT-Basic training.
- Ensure the safety and security of patients during transit, utilizing appropriate restraints and adhering to established safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean and organized ambulance environment, adhering to strict infection prevention and control practices.
- Communicate effectively with paramedics, dispatch personnel, receiving medical facilities, and bystanders at the scene.
- Accurately document any assistance provided to the paramedic and observations made during patient care.
- Report any vehicle malfunctions, equipment damage, or accidents immediately to the EMTs team leader or designated personnel.
- Adhere to all AAR Health Care (Kenya) Limited policies and procedures, including those related to emergency response and patient confidentiality.
- Participate in regular vehicle and equipment checks and report any needs for repair or replacement proactively.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and represent AAR Health Care (Kenya) Limited positively at all times.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A certificate in EMT-1 or Basic (EMT-1/B) from a recognized institution.
- Must possess a valid practicing license from the Kenya Council of Emergency Medical Technicians (KCEMT).
- Hold a valid Class BCE driving license with a proven clean driving record.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working as an ambulance operator.
- Demonstrable customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact calmly and professionally with patients and the public.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in record-keeping and equipment checks.
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and also as a collaborative team player.
- Demonstrate confidentiality and integrity in handling patient information and hospital resources.
