Job Summary

The Physiotherapy Project Officer will be responsible for managing and supporting the delivery of physical and functional rehabilitation services in Dadaab Refugee Camp. This role involves working directly with children with disabilities and their caregivers, providing assessments, treatment, and assistive devices. The Physiotherapy Project Officer will also supervise Community Outreach Workers and contribute to their capacity building.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Delivery of direct services:

    • Perform individual assessments, planning, and treatment of people with physical and functional disabilities.
    • Prescribe, train on use, and maintain assistive devices.
    • Conduct monthly inventory and manage rehabilitation consumables and equipment.
    • Re-assess, evaluate, and report case progress using rehabilitation outcome measure tools.
    • Provide home exercise training to beneficiaries and their caregivers.
    • Review case files for re-assessment and discharge.
    • Supervise center-based and community workers in providing rehabilitation and social integration.
    • Follow-up and support the activities of Community Outreach Workers.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary case meetings.
  • Support the sustainability of learning and skills:

    • Conduct training needs assessments, design, develop, and facilitate training for community workers.
    • Organize peer-to-peer training on basic rehabilitation skills.
    • Coordinate with the SPM and RRS to validate training and project technical requirements.
    • Coordinate the recruitment, training, and mentorship of new refugee CRWs.
    • Mentor and coach Community Outreach Workers.
  • Coordination and collaboration:

    • Participate in service and partner mapping to coordinate and refer cases.
    • Contribute to preparing annual international celebration calendars.
    • Coordinate and promote synergies with other partners.
    • Represent HI in different thematic working groups in the refugee camps.
  • Contribute to HI project quality standards:

    • Contribute to budget development and management for rehabilitation activities.
    • Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual technical reports.
    • Support documentation and sharing of impact/success stories and best practices.
    • Conduct and submit performance evaluations of Community Outreach Workers.
    • Participate in the data collection and reporting process.
    • Participate in the project's overall implementation and achieving objectives.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Educational background and experience:

      • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
      • At least 4 years of work experience in a private or public institution or NGO with experience in management and supervision.
      • Experience in delivering community or home-based physiotherapy services.
    • Technical competencies:

      • Knowledge of rehabilitative services, assistive technology, and current trends.
      • Knowledge of the Kenya Refugee Response Framework.
      • Knowledge of disability law/policies in Kenya.
      • Knowledge and skills in training design, development, and facilitation.
      • Knowledge of the UNCRPD and IASC guidelines on Disability Inclusion.
      • Advocacy and awareness-raising skills.
    • Cross-cutting skills:

      • Communication and interpersonal skills.
      • Problem-solving and networking skills.
      • Facilitation, mentorship, and coaching skills.
    • Computer skills:

      • Very good knowledge of the MS Office suite.
    • Language skills:

      • English and Kiswahili.
