Job Summary
Kirinyaga University is looking for a skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to collect, analyze, and preserve test samples, perform blood grouping, and ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory. The role involves maintaining accurate records, preparing reagents, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and preserve test samples with precision.
- Carry out accurate blood grouping procedures.
- Store blood products according to their specific requirements.
- Screen for blood transfusion infections to ensure safety.
- Issue blood and blood products to peripheral health facilities as per requests.
- Prepare blood products for safe custody or use.
- Decontaminate working benches to maintain a sterile environment.
- Receive and scrutinize laboratory requisition forms and specimens.
- Prepare clients for the collection of specimens.
- Receive, collect, label, and register specimens accurately.
- Disaggregate specimens for processing and analyses.
- Prepare stains for microscopic examination.
- Dispatch results for use in clinical management promptly.
- Prepare reagents for various laboratory tests.
- Examine specimens under microscopes and other laboratory equipment.
- Write and record results accurately and maintain analytical databases.
- Maintain laboratory stores, records, and equipment in good condition.
- Write detailed laboratory reports.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
- Registration with the relevant professional body.
- Valid practicing license from the relevant professional body.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Cumulative service period of six (6) years’ relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Medical Laboratory Technologist II or in a comparable position.
- Degrees from foreign Universities should attach certificates of equation and recognition of qualifications from Kenya National Qualifications Authority.
- Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Kenya Constitution, 2010.
