Job Summary

Aga Khan University Hospital is looking for a Clinical Practice Educator to lead the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures in the OR Recovery unit. This role includes providing continuing education, monitoring clinical indicators, and ensuring high standards of patient care.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of unit-based clinical policies and procedures.
  • Identify, define, and monitor unit-based clinical indicators.
  • Provide continuing education and training for nurses in the assigned unit.
  • Participate in the evaluation of care and outcomes through mortality and morbidity discussions, clinical incidence trends, and clinical indicators.
  • Establish standards of care with unit staff and monitor delivery of care according to established standards.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of nurses and design individual development plans based on identified learning/training needs.
  • Ensure timely submission of monthly reports on learning activities and spot checks.
  • Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team about all clinical matters.
  • Guide nurses in evaluating the effectiveness of care through re-assessments.
  • Ensure patients receive appropriate teaching about their condition and treatments.
  • Provide leadership in the absence of the nurse manager.
  • Design a plan for continuing unit-based learning and ensure participation of all nurses.
  • Maintain records of all learning activities for the unit and individual nurses' participation.
  • Design methods to motivate nurses to pursue individual professional growth and development.
  • Participate in the evaluation of nursing documents.
  • Ensure nursing staff are familiar with and comply with documentation policies.
  • Lead unit-based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), and nursing research projects.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Registered nurse (KRN/M; KRCHN) with a BSc-Nursing degree.
  • Current licensure with the Kenya Nursing Council.
  • Certification in BLS.
  • Minimum 5 years of continuous nursing experience in an Operating Theatre unit in an acute care hospital.
  • Possess teaching abilities, leadership qualities, professional judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in nursing.
